I am pleased to
respond to your email addressed to Mr Reijo Kemppinen on 28 July.
The European
Commission is following the developments in Iraq very closely and is concerned
about the continued high level of violence in many parts of the country. The EU
has repeatedly urged all actors in Iraq to refrain from violence and to seek
peaceful solutions to political problems. We condemn all acts in breach of
international humanitarian law.
During a recent
visit to the Kurdistan region by the Commission's representative in Baghdad,
enquiries were made regarding the case of Soran Mama Hama.
The Commission
was told by the Kurdistan Regional Government that it is collecting
information about this specific case.

WPK announcements for investigating
the
murder of reporter in Kirkuk
Dear Sir/Madam
Soran Mama Hama, who was
shot by gunmen in front of his home in Kirkuk on Monday night21 july08. Mama
Hama, 23, a reporter with the Sulaymania-based
Livin
magazine, had received
threatening messages before the slaying. Mama Hama had written articles critical
of local authorities.
WPK (Worker-communist
party of Kurdistan) condemn this terror attack and call all international
organizations to investigate the murder of Soran Mama Hama and put pressure on
the KRG (Kurdisan Regional Government) to uncover who are behind it. This attack
had been happening under the safe area in Kirkuk that control by the police and
security forces of PUK and KDP (Kurdish parties) and they have responsibility to
show the murders of Soran Mama Hama.
We are strongly believe
this terrorist attack was designed to silence the free voices in Kirkuk who
criticizing PUK and KDP authorities in Kirkuk and this is a very dangerous
development for the region’s media. We are calling all the international
organizations that support freedom of speech and journalism to condemn this
violence from PUK and KDP and ask them to stop this continuously violence and
respect freedom of media.
